Correlation Analysis between Fluoride Contents of Drinking Water and Mottled Teeth in Mankyung River Area

Abstract
|
|
|
This study was performed to find out the fluoride contents of surface and ground water, and the relationships between the fluoride contents of water and the incidence of mottled teeth in Mankyung area. The fluoride contents of water collected from 26 villages, and the incidence of dental fluorosis among the 1,041 primary school children were examined.
The results were follows :
1. The fluoride of surface water was highest in Dong-Ja-Po than in other area,
2. The fluoride contents of ground water, 16 samples among the 26 sampling points were over 1.00ppm, and the fluoride contents of ground water were generally higher than those of surface water.
3. The pH of ground water ranged from 5.7 to 7.6 and the contents of minerals such as iron, copper, chloride and manganese in water were not related to fluoride contents.
4. The fluoride contents of drinking water were highly correlated with the incidence of dental fluorosis.
5. Age-specific prevalence rate of mottled teeth of the primary school children was highly correlated in proportion to increase of age.
